President George H.W. and Barbara Bush, whose passion for Houston sports spanned six decades, will be honored posthumously, both having passed away in 2018 – the former First Lady on April 7; the President on November 30. The couple, who moved to Houston in the 1960s, threw out first pitches and sat behind home plate at Houston Astros games, took part in Super Bowl coin flips, sat courtside at the Rockets, were annual spectators at Houston’s major golf events and they were never afraid to put on their boots for Rodeo Houston. Barbara was a fixture with her feet propped up keeping score at Astros games and George never missed a chance to visit with players on the driving range and putting green at golf tournaments. They counted some of the city’s and nation’s top athletes as not just friends, but as family.
