In his fourth year as head basketball coach at Cy Falls, Flores led the Golden Eagles to their first state title with a 63-57 win over San Antonio Wagner. The team had to first survive a 46-43-triple overtime win over Dallas Skyline in the semifinals. Flores was the second member of the family to win a state title. His wife VIrginia coached Cy Woods to a state title in 2015. Flores, who played at Pasadena Dobie, took over the coaching job from Jim Draught who retired after 22 years, nine district titles and 593 career wins. The Golden Eagles got off to a 10 -0 start this year and were ranked as high as No. 6 nationally, but lost back-to-back games in December leaving them ranked No. 22 in the country and third among 6A teams in the state.
